Approaches to Determining the Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient
When designing and calculating plate heat exchangers, the total heat transfer coefficient can be determined in two ways:
(1) Selection of empirical formulas
Some designers choose the total heat transfer coefficient value of heat exchangers with similar process conditions and similar equipment types as the design basis based on experience or from relevant reference books and experimental reports on performance measurement.
(2) Calculation to determine
In the design calculation, it is often necessary to know the more accurate value of the overall heat transfer coefficient, which can be determined by the calculation of the overall heat transfer coefficient. However, due to the fact that the formula for calculating the heat transfer coefficient has certain errors and the fouling thermal resistance is not easy to accurately estimate, the calculated total heat transfer coefficient value will also be different from the actual situation.
