Introduction to Welding Methods for Pressure Vessels

Introduction to Welding Methods for Pressure Vessels

The quality of welding technology for pressure vessels directly affects the reliability of products. Therefore, we need to learn and understand common welding methods for pressure vessels in order to better control quality during their manufacturing process. The following is an introduction to the welding methods in the pressure vessel manufacturing license.

1, Classification of welded joints: The welded joints of the main pressure parts of the container are divided into four categories: A, B, C, and D.

A. B-class welding joints are recommended to use submerged arc welding, electrode arc welding, argon arc welding, or their combination welding processes

2, Welding method:

01 Cylinder longitudinal seam

The longitudinal seams of the cylinder are mostly welded using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and submerged arc welding (SAW). If the inner diameter of the cylinder is less than 500mm, manual tungsten inert gas arc welding (GTAW) is also required as a base.

02 Cylinder circumferential seam

The circumferential seams of the cylinder body are mostly welded using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and submerged arc welding (SAW). For thicker cylinders, narrow gap submerged arc welding (SAW) should be used as much as possible.

03 Head splicing

The head joint is generally completed in a flat state, with good welding conditions. For joints with a thickness of less than 10mm, it is recommended to use SMAW welding. For joints with a thickness greater than 10mm, a combination welding of SMAW welding and SAW welding is recommended.

04 Connection welding

Welding rods arc welding (SMAW) and submerged arc welding (SAW) are generally used for connecting pipes and shells.

Welding of the inner wall of container 05

The main welding methods for welding the inner wall of containers include: SMAW, SAW, GTAW

06 Tube Plate Connection

The commonly used welding methods for pipe to tube plate joints include: shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), manual tungsten inert gas welding (GTAW), and full position automatic tungsten inert gas welding (GTAW), among which full position automatic tungsten inert gas welding (GTAW) has the best welding quality.
